Guwahati Traffic Police starts Drive Against Modified Silencers

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Traffic Police has issued a stern warning to motorcycle riders against using modified silencers as such silencers make loud noise.

"We don’t need no Sound Pollution, we don’t need no Silencer Modification. Drive launched against noise pollution caused by unauthorised modifications in vehicle’s exhaust. The fine is Rs 10,000 as per MV Act. Please follow rules," tweeted Guwahati Traffic Police on Tuesday, September 1.

The drive was launched on August 31, 2020 as the city police fined over five riders of bikes and bullets for installing modified and noisy silencers.

"The initiative is being undertaken to prevent noise pollution in and across the city. This is, in addition, to drive against pressure horns and other fancy horns," Mayank Kumar Jha, DCP Traffic told G Plus.

He further added that the stern action has been taken as a result of a High Court petition to the Guwahati Traffic Police urging them to take steps towards reducing noise pollution and smoothen traffic.
