Guwahati to have piped gas by 2021

GUWAHATI : Guwahatians might soon be able to get piped gas in your homes. If everything goes as planned the city may be able to get piped gas sometime in 2021.

The 721-km long pipeline to Guwahati of 24-inch diameter will be connected to the National Gas Grid from Haldia-Paradip-Barauni. The cost of the pipeline will be Rs. 3,000 crore.

The route of the pipeline would be from Barauni to Siliguri in West Bengal, Bongaigaon in Assam and then to Guwahati.

Under the Centre’s flagship Urja Ganga the gas pipeline will connect the seven north-eastern states of the country. It was announced by Petroleum Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan in January this year.

The planning is also to better utilise gas reserves located in Manipur, Barak Valley and Arunachal Pradesh and create a gas sufficient northeast.
