Cong War Room Coordinator Reetam Sent To Judicial Custody In Amit Shah Doctored Video Case

GUWAHATI: Congress War Room Coordinator and lawyer Reetam Singh, who was arrested on Sunday night, was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days, on Monday, April 29.

Singh was arrested from Rajiv Bhawan in connection with the circulation of an edited video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and abusive content on social media.

He was picked up by a team of Panbazar police at around 11.40 pm. His laptop and two mobile phones were also seized by the police team.

On Monday, Singh was produced before the court of the chief judicial magistrate in Guwahati, who remanded him to 14-day judicial custody.

A space engineer from London, Singh is also a lawyer at Gauhati High Court.

He posted an edited video of Amit Shah in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on April 27, which alleged that the BJP will remove the reservation of ST, SC and OBCs once it comes to power in this election.
“BJP will end SC-ST-OBC reservation in India if it comes to power. This is pure Brahminical hegemony and death to Ambedkar’s constitution,” Singh wrote in his post.

“Just like they want to give all of India’s wealth to 1% Ambanis and Adanis. They want to give all seats and jobs to 3% Brahmins,” Singh also wrote.

Family sources claimed  Singh removed the video immediately after he came to know it was a fake.

Assam Congress president Bhupen Kumar Borah condemned the arrest and said, “Reetam Singh was arrested for criticising government policies. Every citizen has the right to criticise the policies of the government. By this, they tried to tame the voice of the opposition.”

“This is the sign of an unhealthy democracy. The arrest at the time of election is not justified,” Borah added.
