Guwahati: Section 144 Imposed in Deepor Beel Area

GUWAHATI: The office of the Deputy Commisioner of Police (DCP), West Police District, has issued a prohibitory order under 144 CrPc. 


The order has revealed that the Divisional Forest Officer, Guwahati Wildlife Division (DFO) has apprised Nabaneet Mahanta DCP West Police that some people from villages around and adjoining Depor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary in tandem with people from various fringe parts of Guwahati City are likely to venture out to organize community fishing on 3rd Jan, 2021 and even thereafter.


The DCP police has stated that such ventures are absolutely illegal under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, which will also cause irreparable as well as irretrievable damage to the ecosystem of the sanctuary as presented by the Divisional Forest Officer. It is necessary to take preventive measures to protect the wildlife and ecosystem of the Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary.


As such, the office has prohibited assembly of more than 5 (five) persons in and around the Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary for community fishing. 


The order shall remain in force w.e.f 1st January, 2021 to 31st January, 2021. Executive Magistrate on duty, forest officials on duty and police personnel on duty are exempted from this order.
