GUWAHATI: Rapido riders across the city stormed the head office of Rapido at Ajanta Path, Ganeshguri on Saturday, January 9.

The riders put forwards their demands which included increasing the payout per ride and initiation of a kilometer based payment.

"We are getting paid per kilometer, but the amount is less than what we used to get earlier, whereas petrol prices have risen to almost Rs 90," a member of the All Assam Bike Taxi Operator's Union (AABTOU) told G Plus.

The discussions soon took an argumentative tone when the riders barged out of the office threatening to approach the Dispur police and the District Transport Authority (DTO) regarding the matter.

"We will soon start a protest again from the 25th January onwards. If the demands are not met, we will boycott Rapido," added an AABTOU member.

Meanwhile, the city head of Rapido Suman Acharjee has refuted claims of company apathy. He even claimed that so far none of the union members have given him an official written letter.

"Yes during lockdown, we might not have been able to give them the incentive. Yet we helped with loans and during winters we even gave them jackets," said Acharjee.

On the issue of a communication gap between the company and the riders, the company executive’s statement was contradictory to that of the association. "Our doors have always been open to them. Unlike other offices we don't even have the token system," added Acharjee.
