GUWAHATI: The 78th Independence Day celebration at Khanapara Veterinary Field in Guwahati was overshadowed by complaints of inadequate facilities, particularly for the public and media personnel, who endured the sweltering heat with little to no relief.

While the dignitaries in attendance were provided with proper seating, coolers, and refreshments, the general public faced harsh conditions, with no adequate cooling facilities. The discontent among attendees was palpable.
A resident of Jayanagar, who attended the event with his family, expressed his frustration, saying, "I brought my children to enjoy the celebration, but it turned out to be a bad idea. It is too hot today, and the fans don't even serve their purpose. Meanwhile, the dignitaries are enjoying coolers."
Another attendee commented on the disparity, saying, "The Chief Minister spoke about Assam's progress, but I don't believe this is progress. This is a substandard arrangement."
The media fraternity also suffered under similar conditions. Video journalists, in particular, had to stand for hours under the sun, with no shelter provided. Journalists seated under the roof found little relief, as the cooling facilities were grossly inadequate.
A local journalist remarked, "The fans are just hung up for the show. It doesn't matter if they are switched on or off."
The poor arrangements at the event have sparked criticism, with many questioning the state's commitment to improving public infrastructure and facilities during significant occasions.
