GUWAHATI: Guwahati police have seized a large consignment of psychotropic substances at ISBT under Gorchuk Police Station,. The development was shared by the authorities’ official X account on Sunday, March 23.

Acting on intelligence inputs, a bus (AR 02A 3487) arriving from Siliguri was first intercepted. Upon inspection, officials found 50 cartons that were initially declared to contain ghee.
However, after a thorough check, the cartons were found to be carrying 3,775 bottles of Codeine-based cough syrup, a controlled psychotropic substance.
The police apprehended three individuals from the bus, identified as Golap Hussain (driver) from Barpeta, Jyotish Basumatary (driver) from Gossaigaon, and Hari Prasad Chetry (handyman) from Krishnai.
An hour after the seizure, an auto-van (AS01JC 8026) had also arrived at ISBT to receive the consignment. The driver of the vehicle was detained as well.
Legal proceedings have been initiated, and further investigations are underway.
