GUWAHATI: Assistant General Secretary of the Guwahati Press Club and senior reporter of a local media outlet, Dilwar Hussain Mozumder, was detained at Panbazar Police Station on Tuesday, March 25, after apparently attempting to question Apex Bank Managing Director Dambaru Saikia.

Hussain, in a Facebook post, alleged that he was detained after seeking to speak with Saikia while covering a protest organised by Jatiya Yuva Shakti, a sister organisation of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), outside the bank’s headquarters in Panbazar.
The protest was staged in response to recent allegations of corruption within Apex Bank. Hussain, who had gone to report on the demonstration, also attempted to meet Saikia. However, instead of addressing the journalist’s queries, the bank’s authorities allegedly called the police, who then summoned Hussain to the station, where he was subsequently detained.
Subsequently, Hussain was not permitted to meet anyone. The police maintained that he had not been arrested but was being held based on a complaint from the bank’s management, which accused him of unauthorised entry.
At the time of filing this report, a Panbazar police official, speaking to GPlus, said, "We are still looking into the matter."
Hussain’s detention has sparked criticism, with growing demands for his immediate release.
