Guwahati: Lalmati Gurudwara hosts all faith iftar mehfil

GUWAHATI: An all faith iftar mehfil conceptualised by a group of Muslim professional women was hosted by the Lalmati Gurudwara in the city on Sunday, June 2.

The prime objective of this initiative was to bridge the gap between different communities in society.

“The Sikh community of Guwahati was very happy to hold iftar meets for their Muslim brothers and sisters, and such programmes are being hosted by Gurudwaras across the city. We believe in helping the needy and serving the society by all possible means,” said Ranjit Singh, President, Gurudwara Committee.

At the program, a rendition of the Holy Quran was performed along with its English translation and the significance of Ramzan was explained.

A rumala sahib was presented to the Gurudwara by the Muslim sisters to mark the occasion and a sum of Rs 7,450 was also handed over to Sardar Gurpreet Singh, Jt Secy, Gurudwara Committee for utilising it for community services.

The event was attended by Nurul Laskar (senior journalist), Tinat Atifa Masood (writer and anchor) and Leena Doley APS, SP (CID) Assam among others.

The group had organised similar all faith iftar mehfils at the Guwahati Blind School in 2016, Parijat Academy in 2017 and an Eid Mehfil at Don Bosco Snehalaya in 2018.
