GUWAHATI: As the COVID-19 second wave pandemic grips Assam, work from home has become the default work environment for many residents. The demand for a fast internet has been on the rise as the nature of work is mostly online.
There are various broadband operators in Guwahati along with the new entrant, Reliance JIO fibre. The company claimed to be different from the other players by providing quick internet with equally good service in Guwahati. However, residents had issues with the service of Jio Fibre even before installation.
An Ulubari resident had opted to install Jio Fibre and contacted the company. The resident even paid installation charges as the nature of the work was urgent. But the company officials failed to install the connection even after 20 days of being contacted for the same.
"The officials keep on rescheduling the matter without offering any justification," he informed G Plus, adding, "The operators instead misbehave when contacted."
Meanwhile, similar problems of lack of approachability have been faced by many residents. In the VIP Road area, a student had registered with Reliance Jio to set up a new connection and was assured a call back soon. However, no one from the company has reverted to the issue.
This comes at a time when the demand for good internet has risen in lieu of online classes and work from home being encouraged by the government.
