GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) imposed a penalty of Rs 44,000 for selling plastics less than 50 microns at the Fancy Bazar market in Guwahati on Thursday, November 12.

G Plus spoke to Navdeep Changmai, GMC Collector who confirmed the development. "We have started our drive against usage of plastics which are not permissible," said Changmai.
Earlier, the Central Government had issued a notification under the Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016, banning the usage and manufacturing of single-use plastic which is thinner and less than 50 microns.
Plastic materials weighing 52kg were also seized during the drive.
A strict operation is being conducted by the Guwahati Municipal Corporation authorities regarding the banned and use of single-use plastic in the city. Thinner plastic bags less than 50 microns are currently openly being used by the vendors in the city.
