GUWAHATI: In a bid to make the city more environmentally friendly, the state government has constructed the first bicycle lane for the cyclist in Dakhingaon area.

With several citizens becoming environmentally and health-conscious, this stretch will give people the pleasure of cycling, without the chaos and danger of driving on the roads.

Speaking to Arshel Akhtar, the Cycle Mayor of Guwahati, "This is a good initiative from the state PWD department and is done under Non Motorized Transport (NMT) and we expect this should be done inside the city also."

"The current stretch which is constructed at the corner of the city has been build with all technical specification and based on the feedback of the citizens the government may develop the track in other parts of the city," he added.

It is to be mentioned that a cycle track is also being constructed inside the 'TECH CITY' in Mirza, Guwahati.

It is to be mentioned that this lane should minimise the chances of road accidents, as two cyclists were run over by a speeding car in front of Janata Bhawan in Guwahati recently.
