Guwahati Gears Up For National Taekwondo Championship

 

GUWAHATI: Guwahati is all set to host the prestigious 39th Senior National (Kyorugi) and 12th Senior National (Poomsae) Taekwondo Championship, scheduled to take place from September 9. 

The tournament is being organised by the All Assam Taekwondo Association and will unfold over three action-packed days at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor stadium within the Sarusajai Sports Complex.

During a media briefing, Bolin Chetia, the President of the All Assam Taekwondo Association and also a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Sadiya, revealed the exciting news. Around 1000 athletes from various corners of the nation are anticipated to participate in this upcoming event. The event's budget is estimated to be approximately ₹30 lakh.

Hiranya Saikia, the General Secretary of the All Assam Taekwondo Association, was also present at the media briefing. Saikia informed that a total of seven courts will be utilised for the tournament, five for Kyorugi and two for Poomsae. He added that this championship holds special significance as the top seven states in terms of their performance will secure a spot in the upcoming National Games set to be held in Goa.
