Guwahati: Five Shops Gutted In Maligaon Inferno, Property Worth Lakhs Destroyed

GUWAHATI: A major fire broke out in the Maligaon area which gutted as many as five business establishments late night on June 26, as per initial media reports.

According to statements in the media, the fire that broke out last night at Goshala Bazar in Maligaon engulfed five shops.

Jitendra Sinha the IC of Maligaon (Goshala) Outpost stated while talking to G Plus, "We found reports that about four shops burnt down in the fire. Mainly a grocery store named Sharma Store got burnt down along with Mohan Bakery and a repair shop called Rafique Motorworks. Rafique Motorworks reportedly bore a loss of  ₹1.5 to ₹2 lakh in the incident."

Local police and a team of fire department officials reached the site soon and after a prolonged struggle, they were able to bring the raging flames under control.

As per the initial information received, it took around two hours to bring the fire under control. Meanwhile, the police are suspecting a case of a short circuit but the actual cause of the fire is still unconfirmed.

The incident was reported to take place at around 1 AM last night, as per reports.
