Guwahati: Ferry Services Suspended on River Brahmaputra

GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Metropolitan district administration has suspended all boat and ferry services from Guwahati to North Guwahati and Kurua from the evening of 28th September due to the rise in the water level of River Brahmaputra.


An order issued by the district administration stated, "Whereas it has been observed that the water level of Brahmaputra in Kamrup Metropolitan District is rising for the last few days and become very difficult and risky for the vessels to navigate ... plying of ferry service between Guwahati- North Guwahati and Guwahati- Kurua in such situation may cause untoward incidents which may lead to threat to the lives and properties of the public in general. Therefore in view of safety and security of the public in general, the plying of all kinds of boats/Ferry Service in Kamrup Metropolitan District is suspended w.e.f. 28th September, 2020 evening till further order subject to the recession of the water level in order to avoid untoward incident." 


As per the latest bulletin of the Water Resource Division, Guwahati of 28th September, the water level of river Brahmaputra, near DC court is currently at 49.26 meter high, very close to the danger level of 49.68 meters.
