GUWAHATI: In a significant development, the construction of the highly anticipated Botanical Garden at the old jail campus is set to be completed by August 15.
An official from the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) confirmed that approximately 80 per cent of the project has already been finished.
The ₹31-crore project got underway on January 19, 2022. Initially, the GMDA had estimated that the Botanical Garden would be completed by March of this year. However, the completion date got pushed back by several months.
Covering an expansive area of 54 bighas, the Botanical Garden will utilise approximately 30 bighas of land for the garden itself while allocating 12 bighas for the construction of two ponds.
Once completed, the Botanical Garden will offer visitors a host of attractions and amenities, including the North Pond and the South Pond, each providing a serene ambience for relaxation and enjoyment.
The Botanical Garden is also expected to provide a host of other amenities and facilities including an amphitheatre, an area dedicated to yoga in the Central Plaza Machan tower and a corner for the jail memorial. On the South Pond, a footbridge will also be present.
