Guwahati: The Guwahati Central Zone Excise team on Friday morning during an operation at the Narengi Railway Station confiscated 110 litres of country liquor and arrested three women in this connection.
The trio were travelling in a Kolongpar-Guwahati train and as they deboarded at Narengi, the excise officials who were already waiting for them got hold of them.
They have been detained under Assam Excise Act (Amended) 2018 and were presented before the court. The court sent them to 14 days of judicial custody.
There has been a rise in raids and checks with the implementation of the new excise law and many offenders have been caught and fined.
The Excise Department has been organising awareness programmes in various parts of the city to make people aware about the new excise law.
