Govt. Must Grant ST Status Within 3 Days: Akhil Gogoi

GUWAHATI: In a press conference, KMSS Chief Akhil Gogoi addressed the Union Cabinet’s nod for granting Scheduled Tribe status to six communities listed as Other Backward Classes in Assam. 

Gogoi said that BJP leaders have mentioned that the government will safeguard the interest of all indigenous people of the state for the right reasons by implementing the six clause of Assam accord. But that they are silent now. 

He then questioned the status of proposed ST status to six indigenous communities of Assam and demanded the Government to grant ST status to six communities within March 8. 

“Modi has been cheating the Assamese community for 5 years. The death of jawans in terror attacks has risen in Modi regime. Himanta Biswa Sarma is passing communal comments; Government should take action against him,” he added.

He further said that the BJP Government has assumed charge with support from all indigenous people and that it was fully committed to protect their tradition however now, they have forgotten their promises.
