GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has successfully treated a rare heart condition named Takotsubo cardiomyopathy of a 24-year-old woman.

“The ailment was rare as the patient was quite young and was COVID-19 positive. The condition was probably induced by the virus,” revealed the treating physician, Dr Pranabjyoti Bhattacharya, Department of Cardiology, GMCH.

"This disease is usually shown for postmenopausal women. However, it is rare for a young woman to have this ailment," Dr Bhattacharya informed G Plus.

The disease can be confused with a heart attack due to a similar indication in the Electrocardiography (ECG). However, the doctors at GMCH were able to differentiate that and treat it accordingly. "She will recover with proper post-operative treatment," added Bhattacharya.
