The actions were highlighted in a post by the municipal body on X on Monday, March 10. “Block a drain, open your wallet!” GMC said in a post related to one of the offences.

In one instance, a resident of Aurobindo Path was fined ₹5,000 for blocking a drain in the area, while in another instance, a food cart was removed from MS Road in Fancy Bazar after repeated warnings for failing to maintain hygiene and proper dustbins. The corporation stated that despite multiple notices in the latter incident, the vendor continued to litter the area, leading to the measure taken.

GMC has appealed to vendors and residents to maintain cleanliness to ensure a healthier and cleaner Guwahati, as it reiterated its commitment to keeping the city clean under its campaign, Our Guwahati, Our Responsibility.
