Assam Conducts First-ever Robotic Knee Replacement Surgery At GMCH

 

GUWAHATI: Assam successfully conducted its first-ever robotic knee replacement surgery at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Tuesday, March 11, marking an advancement in the state's healthcare sector.

This development was shared by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on X, as he commended the achievement.

The chief minister also announced plans to install full-fledged robotic surgery units in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Silchar, as these units will aim to enhance precision in surgeries and improve patient outcomes.

Robotic knee replacement surgery is a technologically advanced procedure that uses robotic arms and computer-assisted navigation to enhance accuracy during joint replacement. It helps minimise tissue damage, reduces recovery time, and improves long-term results for patients suffering from severe knee conditions.
