GUWAHATI: Over a 24-hour period, from 8 AM on November 1 to 8 AM on November 2, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) registered 31 road traffic accident cases in its casualty department.

Besides, there were four cases of Diwali-related burn injuries and five of physical assault. Hospital records show young adults were most affected, with several cases requiring admissions.
The 31 RTA patients were brought in from within and around Kamrup (Metro). Further breakdown reveals:
* RTA patients from Kamrup (Metro): 27
* RTA patients from outside Kamrup (Metro): 4
* Age distribution:
* 0–10 years: 2 cases
* 10–20 years: 2 cases
* 20–30 years: 18 cases
* 30–40 years: 6 cases
* Above 40 years: 3 cases
Nine of the patients required hospitalisation, while one individual was brought to GMCH deceased due to accident-related injuries.
With the Diwali festivities underway, GMCH registered four burn cases linked to firecracker accidents. Of these, one patient hailed from Kamrup (Metro), and three were from outside the district. All four individuals needed hospital admission due to the extent of their injuries.
The hospital also documented five cases of physical assault. While three of these cases were reported from Kamrup (Metro), two came from surrounding areas. Most of the assault victims were aged between 20 and 40 years:

Two of the five assault victims required hospitalisation due to the severity of their injuries.
