GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court Bar Association (GHCBA) has announced a sit-in on Monday, March 24, from 11:00 AM to 02:00 PM. The decision was taken in an Extra-Ordinary General Meeting held on Wednesday, March 19.

The sit-in has been organised to oppose the shifting of the Gauhati High Court’s principal seat to Rangmahal, North Guwahati. Expressing dissatisfaction over the decision, the association has cited that the Full Court resolution regarding the shift was passed without consulting the Bar.
The GHCBA has urged all its members to participate in the demonstration and stand in solidarity with the association, as the protest aims to highlight concerns over the lack of consultation with legal professionals before making a decision of such significance.
It has been estimated that the sit-in demonstration will draw participation from a large number of legal practitioners.
Girin Pegu, Secretary General of the Gauhati High Court Bar Association, has signed the notice calling for participation in the protest.
