GUWAHATI: The Assam government has unveiled plans to establish four new districts. This decision was unveiled following the recent 100th Assam Cabinet meeting on Friday.
The four new districts that will be carved out are Hojai, Biswanath, Tamulpur and Bajali. It was also decided to carve out 11 new Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs) in these four districts.
The new LACs are Binakandi, Lumding and Hojai in Hojai district; Biswanath, Gohpur and Behali in Biswanath district; Tamulpur and Goreswar in Tamulpur district; and Bajali and Bhawanipur-Sorbhog in Bajali district.
Taking to Twitter, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the decision, stating, “To enhance decentralisation of governance and better convergence of line departments, we are creating 4 new districts & delegating several functions to newly demarcated sub-districts. #AssamCabinetAt100.”
