Flood Situation Worsens In Assam, 9000 More Affected

GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam escalated on Thursday as an additional 9,000 individuals were affected in the state's Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, and Dibrugarh districts.

Before this, 21,000 people had already been impacted in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts.

Meanwhile, urban floods continue to affect the districts of Kamrup (Metro), Cachar, and Nalbari.

Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) CEO Gyanendra Dev Tripathi informed the media that both the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are engaged in rescue operations in the Lakhimpur district.

Moreover, the Army and Indian Air Force are also on high alert.

As per official data, the flood has affected 23,516 people in Lakhimpur, over 3,857 individuals have been affected in Dibrugarh, and in Dhemaji, the number stands at 1,497 as of Thursday evening.

Though no animals have been washed away in the flood so far, 3994 big animals and 1682 small animals have been affected in Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts.

In Dhemaji alone, 631 poultry have been affected, the ASDMA data stated.

Three relief distribution centres have been established in Lakhimpur district.

According to the ASDMA, 215.57 hectares of crop area remains submerged in floodwaters.

The Kumatiya Embankment from NH-15 to Gurathali Chapori in Dhemaji has been damaged, and two additional embankments in the Lakhimpur district have also suffered damage, the ASDMA stated.
