Six Assam sports persons will represent India in Asian Games 2018

Guwahati: For the first time Assam will have six participants for the upcoming Asian Games to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 19 August to 2nd September.

The six sportspersons from Assam who have booked their berths for the Asian Games are Hima Das (Athletics), Shiva Thapa (Boxing), Ashmita Chaliha (Badminton), Pramila Daimary (Archery) Kabita Devi and Rodali Baruah (Taekwondo).

Shiva Thapa defeated Commonwealth Games silver-medallist Manish Kaushik in the trials to get selected for the Asian Games. Thapa is a former world bronze-medallist and a three-time Asian medallist.

Shuttler Ashmita Chaliha secured her berth in Asian Games India squad by winning the All India Senior Ranking Tournament held recently in Hyderabad.

Promila Daimary beat former world number one Deepika Kumari in the trials held recently to book her berth in the Indian women's recurve section for the Asian Games.

Hima Das booked a ticket for the Asian Games by winning the gold in women's 200m race at the recently held National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Guwahati.
