GUWAHATI: A 29-year-old female journalist of Assam was allegedly sexually assaulted by a gang of drunken men in a ladies coach of a local train near Tihu in Nalbari district.
As per the complaint filed by the journalist, she was travelling from Guwahati to Bongaigaon in Manas Rhino Passenger train on June 22 on an official assignment when the incident occurred.
The journalist, who was travelling in the ladies coach, was allegedly groped by a member of a four-man gang that had boarded the train in an apparent inebriated state.
The journalist managed to free herself by hitting the assaulter in self defence, but as the train entered Tihu station, her assaulters managed to flee the scene.
She has filed a written complaint at the Bongaigaon station.
There were three other women passengers in the coach at the time of assault, but none came forward to help her, the journalist said.
Expressing deep anguish at the incident, the journalist demanded security for women passengers and ensuring that male passengers cannot enter the women coach.
