GUWAHATI: Amidst the circulation of fake news over the social media platforms which led to the Karbi Anglong lynching case, Commissioner of Police, Assam Hiren Chandra Nath has himself become a victim of a fake Facebook profile.
Assam Police CPRO had stated that a fake Facebook profile has been created by the name of Hiren Chandra Nath.
“This is a fake Facebook account in the name of Hiren Chandra Nath, IPS Commissioner of Police, Guwahati. He doesn't use any social media except WhatsApp”, CPRO added.
Further, the account has 10 friends, out of which eight friends share the same name.
It may be noted the state government has decided to constitute a special unit for cyber patrolling. This team will lodge complaints if they come across anything objectionable or distasteful.
The Assam cyber patrolling unit will be led by Additional Director General of Police (Security) Harmeet Singh.
