GUWAHATI: With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coming back to power with a landslide victory, the union cabinet is expected to have new faces in the new government. We can expect the following leaders to be rewarded with cabinet berths.

Amit Shah - Home

With the BJP National President Amit Shah winning the lok sabha seat from Gandhinagar, it is expected that he would be given charge of home ministry, since he held the same portfolio in Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government during his tenure as the chief minister of the state.

Rajnath Singh - Defence

The current Home Minister Rajnath Singh might be given charge of the defence ministry currently held by Nirmala Sitharaman.

Piyush Goyal - Finance

Since finance minister Arun Jaitley didn't contest in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections due to health issues, this ministry might see a new face. It is expected that Piyush Goyal might be given the portfolio of finance ministry, which is currently being held by Goyal as an interim minister since the time Arun Jaitley opted out for his treatment in the United States.

Nirmala Sitharaman – External Affairs

After Sushma Swaraj announced that she will not be contesting in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, it was clear that the external affairs ministry will be having a new head. With many names doing the rounds, it is somewhat clear that the external affairs ministry might be given to Nirmala Sitharaman.

Smriti Irani

After her big win against Congress President Rahul Gandhi on his home turf of Amethi, it is clear now that current textile minister will be promoted into the cabinet for certain.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi

The only prominent Muslim face in the BJP might get a cabinet ministry rank this time. However, things will be clear after the party meeting before the swearing-in.

Moreover, with the performance of the NDA allies like the Janata Dal (United), Akali Dal, Shiv Sena and Lok Janshakti Party, MPs from these parties are also likely to be given cabinet ranks.
