Eminent poet, two authors from Assam bag Sahitya Akademi awards

GUWAHATI: Three literary luminaries from Assam have won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Awards 2018 for their work in different genres.

Sananta Tanti has been selected for the award for his poems ‘Kailoir Dinto Amar Hobo’, Rituraj Basumatary for the collection of his short stories ‘Dwngse Lama’, Loknath Upadhyay Chapagain for his short stories ‘Kino Royeu Upamaa'(Nepali).

The Sahitya Akademi Award is a literary honor in India which the Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, annually confers on writers of the most outstanding books of literary merit published in any of the major Indian languages.

The award will be given at a function in New Delhi on January 29. It comprises a casket containing an engraved copper plaque, a shawl and a cheque of Rs. 1 lakh.
