GUWAHATI: Elvis Ali Hazarika became the first Assamese to swim from the Elephanta Island Jetty to the Gateway Of India in Mumbai, on December 13.
According to Hazarika, the route was difficult with a lot of hurdles in the water including jellyfish and other fishes.
Talking to GPlus, Elvis Ali Hazarika said, “With a lot of hardwork, I have finally become the first Assamese to successfully swim from Elephanta Island Jetty to the Gateway Of India Arabian Sea solo. It was perilous and a challenge as I swam along with pretty big-sized fish and a lot of jellyfish. It was extremely tiring, the swim, overall.”
“This is a dream come true for me, and also the people of Assam. Joi Aai Axom! ,” he further added.
The Chief Minister Of Assam’s Office (CMO) also took to X to put out, “HCM Dr @himantabiswa extends his heartiest congratulations to Elvis Ali Hazarika on completing a solo swim from Elephanta Island Jetty to the Gateway Of India in Mumbai. HCM has asked Elvis Ali to continue his efforts, set new records & inspire the future generation of swimmers.”
