Elvis Ali Hazarika Creates History, Becomes First Assamese To Cross English Channel

 

GUWAHATI: Ace Assam swimmer, Elvis Ali Hazarika on July 19 scripted history as he became the first Assamese to cross the North Channel, both ways.

Elvis swam a total distance of 78 km clocking a time of 31 hours swimming in a relay from Samphire in England to Calis in France and then returning back.

Talking to G Plus Elvis Ali Hazarika said, “I have been waiting for this day for a long time. After a lot of effort and hours of pushing myself to work harder, every day, I successfully have become the first Assamese (North East) to cross the English Channel both ways. We had to go through a lot of challenges. Especially, the Jellyfish, Dolphins, Seals, saltwater, heavy currents, and choppy weather that were accompanying us all the way. A dream come true, and a proud moment for all Indians and Assamese people. Joi Aai Axom!”

Hazarika who hails from Guwahati is known for his swimming records and this time he has made another record making the people of Assam proud.

Hazarika set another record by becoming the first Assamese to successfully swim from Dharamtar Jetty to the Gateway Of India, Mumbai, the Arabian Sea in 2021.

Also, he became the first from the state to cross the Catalina Channel in the United States of America in 2019.

Elvis Ali Hazarika, reached Mexico from the USA, swimming through the channel and covering a distance of 80 km in a span of 10 hours 59 minutes.
