Elephant brought from Assam dies in Mizoram, locals feast on its meat

GUWAHATI: Locals in Mizoram feasted on the meat of a dead elephant which was brought from Assam. The 47-year-old elephant who was imported from Assam into Kanhmun Forest Range of Kwasthah Division in Mizoram, died a few weeks ago.

As per reports, the villagers cut up its body and consumed the meat. Further, media reports stated that no official from the forest department was present on the spot to prevent the incident- the pictures of which were widely shared on social media recently.

Reportedly, the elephant had died of a heart attack.

The owner, one Md Mastufa Ahmed Laskar of Sonai in Cachar district of Assam had leased the elephant to one Pu Khualhina of Kanhmun in Mizoram.
