GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has decided to postpone the release of Assam's Photo Electoral Roll following a formal request from the State Election Department.
According to media reports, the revised schedule now indicates that the integrated and amalgamated draft photo-electoral roll for the year 2024 will be made public on December 8, 2023, as opposed to the original date of December 1, 2023.
This alteration is deemed essential due to the recent constituency delimitation exercise conducted in the state, necessitating an extension in the timeline for the publication of the photo-electoral rolls. The Special Summary Revision of the Photo Electoral Roll will unfold with the draft version being unveiled on December 8.
The window for filing claims and objections will span from December 8, 2023, to January 8, 2024, accompanied by a dedicated campaign on two Saturdays and two Sundays within this month-long period. The finalisation of claims and objections is set to conclude by January 22, 2024, with the ultimate photo electoral roll slated for publication on February 8, 2024.
