GUWAHATI: In preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections next year, teams from the Election Commission of India (ECI) are set to visit Assam.
Their primary purpose will be to oversee the updating of photo electoral rolls and evaluate the overall readiness for the forthcoming elections.
According to reports, two ECI teams will be visiting Assam on November 16 and 17 to assess the progress of electoral roll updates.
As of now, the electoral rolls have been temporarily frozen by the ECI pending the publication of the draft photo electoral roll.
Another ECI team is scheduled to arrive in Assam on November 20 to review the general preparations for the Lok Sabha polls.
On this day, a meeting involving officials from the election department and district-level officials will be held to discuss and coordinate the preparations.
It's worth noting that the ECI has provided Assam with an additional 4,500 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha elections.
