GUWAHATI: The District Transport Office (DTO) for Kamrup (Metropolitan) district has launched a campaign to collect outstanding Motor Vehicle Taxes from owners of luxury vehicles in Guwahati. The DTO said it has started making public announcements over loudspeakers in certain localities of the city, including Zoo Road, Bharalumukh, GS Road, to this end.

The announcements were made in several posh localities over the last few days, and today, September 23, it was made near the Games Village, Lokhra.

The DTO has given a deadline of September 30 clearing outstanding Motor Vehicle Taxes on luxury vehicles. "We will take the necessary actions if the taxes are not paid by then," DTO of Kamrup (M) Gautam Das told G Plus

A DTO official confirmed that while non-luxury cars require a 15-year Motor Vehicle Tax payment at the time of purchase, luxury vehicles are required to pay the same in two installments of 5 and 10 years. A number of luxury vehicles plying on Guwahati’s roads have paid only the first installment, with the second one remaining pending, the official explained.
