During the research, eight dogs from Germany’s armed forces were reportedly trained for duration of a week post which they were able to identify patients infected by the virus with a success rate of 94%.

Dogs could sniff out COVID-19 in the saliva of over 1,000 people, both healthy and infected.

Dogs have a very strong sense of smell; nearly 1000 times more sensitive that human and could now be deployed to detect those infected by the virus.

Further, researchers have said that their next step would be to train dogs to differentiate between COVID samples from other diseases like influenza.
