Assam Information Technology minister Keshab Mahanta during a sudden visit to the Dighalipukhuri situated library asked the authorities to prepare a detailed project report by this month for the renovation of the library.

He said that during the visit, he found a very sorry state of the five decades old library and its books.

It was established in 1955 and contains more than 85,000 collections.

The library was initially started at Curzon Hall and in 1959, and later it was shifted to its present building. It has three sections – science and technology, reading and reference and issue.

Several other sections will also be introduced after upgrade.
