Disproportionate Case Registered Against Former Dhula OC Involved In Minor Murder Case In Assam

GUWAHATI: CID has registered a disproportionate case under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against former Officer-In-Charge (OC) of the Dhula Police Station, Utpal Bora and his wife, as per a press note.

It may be recalled that CID has already investigated and charge-sheeted the murder case of the minor girl child under the jurisdiction of the Dhula Police Station against the accused, identified as Krishna Kamal Baruah. A separate case on charges of bribery against the former Superintendent and Additional Superintendent, Darrang and Utpal Bora was registered.

“During the investigation of the bribery case, it has come to light that Bora had purchased a luxurious SUV MG Gloster vehicle at a cost of ₹33.93 lakh in December 2020 in his name,” the press note read.

Further, Bora had also purchased a residential plot of land of 3 kathas in the Paschim Boragaon area of Guwahati at a cost of ₹48 lakh in the name of his wife in March 2022.

Further, he also booked an apartment with 2,950 sq. ft. of build-up area in September 2020 at a total cost of ₹45 lakh which was now under construction and as per the payment conditions in the agreement, 95% of the cost appears to have been paid to the builder so far.

Additionally, there were cash balances in his bank accounts of ₹5.23 lakh at ICICI bank, Barpeta Branch and ₹17.5 lakhs at SBI, New Guwahati Branch.

During the check period, his known sources of income were only ₹13.3 lakh and he had incurred an expenditure of ₹6.74 lakh towards the household expenditure, registration fee and stamp duty and road tax for the luxury vehicle.

“As such, he is in possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of ₹1.26 crores which is more than 947% of his known sources of income,” the press note stated.
