GUWAHATI: The All Assam Polytechnic Founder Faculty Associates (AAPFFA) on Monday, January 27 held a statewide protest and set a 15-day deadline for redressal of their long-pending grievances failing which they would resort to indefinite strike.

Members of the AAPFFA were demanding job regularisation and timely salary payments for faculty members appointed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Assam, in 2017.
The protest is in response to years of unresolved issues, including financial hardship and job insecurity. Despite completing a rigorous selection process and serving for over eight years, the affected faculty members are still not granted permanent appointments, leaving them vulnerable to uncertain job conditions and facing financial strain.
In a press release, AAPFFA urged the DTE to regularise their appointments and release all pending salaries. "As the founding faculty of Assam’s polytechnic institutions, we have dedicated our careers to shaping the future of technical education in the state. It is disheartening that our service and dedication are met with neglect and injustice. We urge the authorities to act swiftly and fairly," said an AAPFFA spokesperson.
While the faculty were granted a Do Not Disturb (DND) status by the High Court, the protection has not led to meaningful improvements, particularly with regard to the denial of scale pay.
Setting the 15-day deadline for the authorities to resolve these issues, the AAPFFA said an indefinite strike could disrupt education across Assam.
