A notification to this effect was issued on  Monday, January 27. It said that Harmeet Singh will continue to look after the post until the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Singh is already serving as Assam’s Director General of Civil Defence and Commandant General of Home Guards, and he will continue to reprise his previous role alongside his new duties, till the appointment of a regular incumbent for the former.

Harmeet Singh also bears additional responsibilities as the state’s Spl. Director General of Police (HQ), Spl. DGP-cum-Director, F&ES, and Spl. Director General of Police (Border).

The notification also stated that DGP G.P. Singh has been relieved of his responsibilities to go on deputation as Director General of CRPF. This is in pursuant to a communication from the Ministry of Home Affairs, which appointed him in the CRPF at Level-16 of the Pay Matrix, particularly on a deputation basis. He will be there up to the date of his superannuation on November 30, 2027 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, from the date of assumption of the charge of the post.

G.P. Singh has also earlier served with the Special Protection Group (SPG) and was on central deputation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) starting in 2013, where he held the position of Inspector General before being called back to Assam following disturbances over protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
