GUWAHATI: Dibrugarh University has secured a substantial grant of ₹100 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (PM-USHA) scheme, marking a stride towards its transformation into a Multi-Disciplinary Education and Research University (MERU).
Established in 1965, Dibrugarh University stands as the second university in Assam and the Northeast region with a rich legacy.
Dibrugarh University also took to Facebook to put out, “Dibrugarh University is elated and enthused to be selected for MERU under PM-USHA. We express our deepest gratitude to the Central Government and the Assam Government for this support towards establishing us as a multi-disciplinary education and research university.”
This substantial grant of ₹100 crore opens avenues for Dibrugarh University to enhance its academic offerings and expand its class repertoire for students.
Also, Cotton University in Guwahati and Bodoland University in Kokrajhar are set to receive a grant of ₹20 crore under University Strengthening grants.
Assam's Education Minister, Ranoj Pegu, while taking to X said “Dibrugarh University has been chosen for development as a MERU under NEP. The university will receive a grant of Rs 100 crores. Additionally, Cotton University and Bodoland University will each receive Rs 20 crore under the University Strengthening grants.
