Delhi Police granted powers to detain under NSA

GUWAHATI : Delhi police commissioner has been granted the power of detaining authority for three months from January 19 to April 18 under the National Security Act (NSA).

Lieutenant Governor (LG), Anil Baijal, approved the notification which was issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on January 10.

Under the act, a person can be detained if authorities feel that the individual is a threat to national security, law and order.

It is to be mentioned that many people have been detained in the past few months for protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizen (NRC). More than 1,000 people were detained by the Delhi Police in one evening last month.

As per reports, the Delhi Police said that it is a routine order that has been issued in every quarter.
