GUWAHATI: The state government will provide assistance to Assam residents who are stranded abroad and are unable to return to Assam due to the coronavirus outbreak.

State health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned on his Facebook page that such people can seek assistance from the state government by sending their details via email at covhelpline.assam@gmail.com or by tweeting to the Assam finance department’s twitter handle @AssamFinDept.

Sarma wrote on Facebook: “Citizens of Assam who went abroad 30 days prior to March 22 and unable to return due to #CoronaOutbreak can seek assistance from State Govt. Please send details at covhelpline.assam@gmail.com or on Assam Fin Dept Twitter handle @AssamFinDept”

It is to be mentioned that the government of India had cancelled all international flights for a week from March 22 onwards.

Further, the Assam government had earlier promised to provide 2000 dollars to Assamese persons stranded outside the country.

“Those who have travelled outside the country in the last 30 days for various reasons for attending seminars, exchange students, business related work and even tourists and are not being able to return to Assam as airlines have shut down, they will each be given 2,000 dollars in their respective accounts,” Sarma had announced earlier.
