GUWAHATI: With 2,218 more persons testing positive for COVID-19 on August 8, Assam's total tally has reached 57,714.

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “Alert ~ 2218 COVID cases detected out of 54845 tests in last 24 hrs. We have managed to maintain low positivity rate (4.04%). Kamrup (M)- 299, Cachar- 165, Nagaon- 150, Dibrugarh- 142."
Further, with 1,782 persons being discharged from different hospitals and COVID care centres in the state, Assam now stands with 16,980 active cases as on August 8.
So far, 40,591 persons have recovered from the viral disease in Assam.

However, a total of 140 persons have died due to the virus, with 8 persons succumbing on Saturday, August 8.
