GUWAHATI: Assam sees the highest one day spike in COVID-19 cases with 1,680 coronavirus positive cases reported in a day as per state health minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma's latest Twitter update at 12:42 am on July 22.
“Alert ~ 1680 new #COVID19 patients detected in Assam on July 21. Guwahati reported 570 cases. ( Jorhat167, Cachar 159). With 18152 tests carried out in 24 hours, our positivity rate is 9.2%,” tweeted the minister.

With this increase in numbers, total COVID-19 cases in the state have gone up to 26,772 of which, 8,672 are active and 18,033 people have been cured of the disease.
With 6 new deaths reported from the state, the death by the infectious disease stands at 64.
Although Kamrup Metro continues to be the COVID-19 hotspot of the region, Guwahati city is now ‘unlocking’ after a three-week-long lockdown which was enforced in view of public safety to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
