COVID-19: 63 Positive Cases in Assam, Sample of 1,113 Patients Pending

GUWAHATI: Addressing a press meet today, Assam Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 63 positive cases are registered in Assam, including the one who had left for Bihar.

The minister further stated that as on May 12, 20,000 tests were conducted in which 2,000 were from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

Earlier on May 11, 2 cases were detected in Guwahati. 

One patient has been identified as Mongru Sahani, 50 yrs of Alupatti Fancy Bazar, originally from UP, Azamgarh. The patient had the initial symptoms of fever on 5th May. On 10th May he went to GMCH and his sample was taken on 11th there.

10 people directly in touch with him are now quarantined; one doctor and other 18 indirectly in contact with him have been tested.

5 more people in a potato godown in Changsari, who possibly came into contact with Sahani and have been suffering from fever, are quarantined. The potato godown in Changsari is now a containment zone.

The second case detected in Guwahati yesterday is Amar Jyoti Deka of Morigoan, a 27 year old who was undergoing treatment in the Neurology Dept of GMCH. He was detected accidentally after 2,000 swab test were done in GMCH related to Dr. Lithikesh DS.

22 relatives of Deka have been quarantined and their test results are awaited.

"Currently there are just three positive cases found related to GMCH. If numbers remain the same, then GMCH will resume services for new patients from 15th May," informed Sarma.
