GUWAHATI: With more than 600 new cases reported in last 24 hours, India's coronavirus count continues to rise sharply.

The total number of COVID-19 patients in India has surged to 2,902. According to the ministry of health and family welfare, the death toll has risen to 68.

The Maharashtra tally of Covid-19 cases is now at 490-the highest in the country.

Delhi and Tamil Nadu registered a record number of cases in last few days.

Most of these fresh cases were linked to a religious congregation held in Delhi's Nizammudin area last month.

Despite the rise in cases, Joint Secretary at the Union Health Ministry Lav Agarwal said the revised testing guideline is still under consideration and would be released by April 4.

Worldwide, confirmed infections rose past 1 million and deaths topped 58,000 on Saturday, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
