Congress general secretary in charge of Assam Jitendra Singh on Monday launched the party's manifesto in Assam and claimed that the BJP-led government had 'failed' to keep its promise to the people. Singh asserted that the Congress will fulfill all its guarantees made in the manifesto.

The manifesto pledges to address various issues, starting with ensuring freedom from fear. It aims to restore freedom of speech and expression, including full freedom for the media. Additionally, the INC promises to decriminalise defamation and provide speedy civil remedies.

Internet freedom is another concern addressed, with a commitment to end arbitrary suspensions.

The Telecommunications Act of 2023 will be reviewed to remove provisions restricting freedom of speech and violating privacy rights.

Furthermore, the manifesto vows to review all laws infringing on privacy rights and uphold the right to assemble peacefully.

The 'one nation one election' proposal is rejected, and the INC pledges to hold elections according to the Constitution and democratic traditions.

To restore trust in the election process, the manifesto proposes a combination of electronic voting machines and paper ballots.

It also promises to strengthen the autonomy of various constitutional bodies and amend laws to prevent defection.

The manifesto also aims to revive the Planning Commission, ensure law enforcement agencies operate within legal bounds, and end the misuse of laws and arbitrary actions.

Comprehensive prison reform is also on the agenda to transform jails into rehabilitation centres.

The INC's manifesto outlines a comprehensive plan to address various challenges and restore freedom, democracy, and trust in institutions in India and reverse the damage already done.
