Assam Gears Up For Bye-Poll Election Results On November 23

 

GUWAHATI: The results of the by-elections to Assam’s five assembly seats is scheduled to be released on Saturday, November 23. The elections were conducted on November 13 across five constituencies, including Behali, Bongaigaon, Dholai, Samaguri, and Sidli.

A total of 38 candidates had filed nominations across the constituencies, with 24 nominations filed on the final day, according to the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam. The total nominations included three for Dholai, one for Sidli, five for Bongaigaon, 12 for Samaguri, and three for Behali. These bye-elections featured a host of candidates from the BJP, Congress, AAP, AGP, and UPPL.

Tanzil Hussain, son of Lok Sabha MP Rakibul Hussain, contested for Congress from the Samaguri seat, while Dhrubajyoti Purakayastha contested from the Dholai seat. Additionally, the Congress had put Sanjib Warie from Sidli seat and Brajenjit Sinha from the Bongaigaon seat, and further pitted former BJP leader Jayanta Borah from Behali’s seat.

Meanwhile, the BJP had named Diganta Ghatowar as their party candidate in Behali, whereas Diplu Ranjan Sarma contested from Samaguri, and Nihar Ranjan Das from Dholai.

Sidli also witnessed a contest between Nirmal Kumar Brahma of the United People's Party, Liberal (UPPL) and Shuddha Kumar Basumatary of the Bodoland's People Front (BPF).
